[Even as the words slip out his mouth, he's casting his glance to the side to look at her when she talks about Luke, and he easily picks up on that heavy look. One so clouded and melancholic behind seemingly happy words - similar to something he'd seen in her smile when they'd spoken at the New Feather party not long after his arrival.
Something was going on. Something she wasn't quite wanting to speak about.
He shifts his weight slightly, letting the redhead in his lap squirm for a hold on his wrist... and idly start sucking on the fingertips of his bare left hand. It had been a little game of contact they'd been playing today - something that, for some reason, was giving Luke a little bit more security in the blonde's arms. He lets a more genuine smile slide onto his face, adjusting his hold around the boy with his free arm to let him lean back against his chest as he played around with the man's fingers.]

He just looks genuinely hopeful for the boy in his lap. A bit guilt-heavy, but hopeful nonetheless.
After all, why would Luke need to worry about death again anytime soon?]
